The Allman Betts Band
Carrying the Torch • Forging New Traditions
Devon Allman and Duane Betts are more than acclaimed solo artists and modern-day guitar heroes — together, they lead The Allman Betts Band, a supergroup fueled by songwriting fire, southern soul, and a historic legacy. Their music blurs the lines between rock & roll, blues, Americana, and southern roots, creating a sound that is both timeless and firmly of today.
Family Roots
The story begins in 1989, when Devon and Duane — sons of Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts — met as kids on tour with their fathers during the Allman Brothers Band’s 20th anniversary. That bond never faded, even as they grew up in different cities. “From that point on, we knew we were family,” Duane recalls.
In 2017, a one-off show at San Francisco’s Fillmore honoring Gregg Allman’s 70th birthday reignited that connection. The chemistry on stage birthed both the Allman Betts Family Revival tradition and, soon after, The Allman Betts Band itself.
Albums & Chart Success
- Down to the River (2019) — Recorded live to analog tape at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, the debut hit #1 on iTunes Rock and landed in the Top 10 on multiple Billboard charts.
- Bless Your Heart (2020) — Produced by Matt Ross-Spang, tracked in a week at Muscle Shoals, expanding their songwriting and sonic range.
Both albums helped establish the band’s legacy while appealing to fans of The Allman Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and The Rolling Stones, eager for a fresh take on classic sounds.
Tours & Family Revival
The band launched its first world tour in 2019, timed with the 50th anniversary of The Allman Brothers Band’s first jam. Despite the global pandemic, they kept the music alive with socially distanced gigs, drive-in tours, and then nearly 120 shows in 2021.
The Allman Betts Family Revival has grown into a Last Waltz-style traveling festival featuring an ever-changing lineup of stars, including Robert Randolph, Jimmy Hall, Donovan Frankenreiter, G. Love, Luther Dickinson, and Maggie Rose. “It started as a celebration of my father,” Devon says, “but it’s evolved into a reunion of players from our generation, alongside up-and-coming talent.”
Recent Chapters
During a brief hiatus in 2022–23, Duane released his solo debut Wild & Precious Life, while Devon set a new record by playing 50 shows in all 50 states in just 49 days with Donovan Frankenreiter. By summer 2023, the band was back, stronger than ever, with an expanded lineup:
- Devon Allman – Guitar/Vocals
- Duane Betts – Guitar/Vocals
- Johnny Stachela – Guitar
- Justin Corgan – Bass
- John Ginty – Keyboards
- David Gomez – Percussion/Saxophone
- John Lum – Drums
- Alex Orbison – Drums
Legacy & Vision
The Allman Betts Band honors its roots while blazing its own trail. Their sets weave original songs with tips of the hat to Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts, keeping tradition alive while proving they are an original band with a modern identity. As Devon puts it: “This music is our history. But it’s also our present.”
The Allman Betts Band: A new soundtrack for the American South — bluesy, soulful, and undeniably rock & roll.
