Rusty Wier’s Living Legacy
Early in his career, Mayse befriended genre-hopping legend Rusty Wier, traveling and gigging together extensively. Wier’s final visit to a recording studio before his passing in 2009 was a guest vocal on Mayse’s debut, Devil On My Shoulder — a through-line you can feel across Bridges & Kerosene.
Roads Taken
Between records, Mayse stepped in and out of the live scene as life demanded — working as a professional orchestral trumpeter since his teens, backing bands across genres, and swapping songs around Texas with friends in the under-the-radar indie outfit The Great American Boxcar Chorus. The new album marks a fresh run of momentum: more miles, more rooms, more songs.
