Al Stewart with his band The Empty Pockets performing live music at Dosey Doe in The Woodlands

Al Stewart has never been easy to pin down. Ask him where he is musically and you may find yourself two steps behind, as Stewart knows better than most that moving forward often means looking back. Sometimes that means digging through historical archives, sometimes it’s revisiting the record stacks of rock ’n’ roll pioneers like Eddie Cochran and his timeless “Summertime Blues.”

Rising to fame during the British folk revival of the 1960s and ’70s, Stewart became known for weaving folk-rock storytelling with tales of history’s great characters and events. Over the years, he’s released 19 studio albums, from Bedsitter Images (1967) to Sparks of Ancient Light (2008), along with the live album Uncorked with Dave Nachmanoff (2009).

Stewart is perhaps best known for his Platinum-selling hits “Year of the Cat” and “Time Passages”, which remain staples of classic rock radio. But his career spans more than four decades as a key figure in British music. Along the way, he’s played the first-ever Glastonbury Festival in 1970, worked with Yoko Ono pre-Lennon, and even shared a London apartment with a young Paul Simon.

Still touring extensively across the U.S. and Europe, Al Stewart continues to deliver his unique blend of storytelling, history, and songcraft — keeping alive a legacy that is as rich and captivating as the stories he sings.
